I'm bringing mousse back--and not the dessert (although that should be brought back too*)
I'm not ashamed to admit--I've spent the better part of the past week trying to find the perfect mousse for adding volume and texture to my otherwise limp locks.
What I'm after is that sexy, tousled and messy look, overly flat-ironed and perfectly manicured hair is so yesterday: sorry, Jeanne Beker.
The hard part of embracing mousse is trying to coax any product recommendations and glowing endorsements from my friends and fellow beauty junkies. Turns out not many people use mousse. They think it's a sticky situation (and a messy one, I might add) that results in crunchy hair and sticky fingers.
Even hair spray has come a long way since the 80s, when stiff and crunchy hair was the eponymous hairstyle de rigueur and flexible hold was unheard of. Surely mousse hasn't been left behind, no? (Though I'm secretly in envy of hair with Ziggy Stardust-like proportions.)
Anyway, off to CVS I went in search of the perfect flexible texturizing mousse. To my delight there's actually a whole slew of new ones that claim to create sexy volume with no stiffness. I came home armed with 3 different options.
TRESemmé 24 Hour Body Foaming Mousse is first up. I applied the wonderful thick foam (some things should never change) to damp hair last night and haphazardly french braided it before bed. The formula is very lightweight, suprisingly non-sticky and thus far, relatively non-crunchy.
This morning I unraveled my hair into what so far appears to be some great beachy wave texture with an oopmh of volume. It's not even 10am and I've already received 2 compliments on my hair, dare I say I think we've found a winner?
*Vegan hot-spot Seed in Venice Beach makes THE best chocolate mousse, btw.
